Recently, more and more light has been projected on those favorite targets of the blogging left; The Koch brothers.Tales of evil, sinister, overly wealthy libertarians who have funded everything from Governor Walker in Wisconsin to the final four in March Madness.
Sure, that last part is not even remotely true, but they do spend a lot of their money, inherited money, on right wing causes.Causes I generally dislike if not deplore.
I am not even sure that is a strong enough word to describe it, but whatever.
But, here is the thing; I am a bit annoyed with the left’s obsession with the Koch brothers.Ya wanna know why? If the Koch brothers were wealthy liberal brothers spending money on progressive campaigns and ideas it would be the left loving them and the right loathing them.Something that already goes on to a much lesser degree with George Soros.
You know who Soros is, don’t you? He is the wealthy guy who Glenn Beck things can read his thoughts and thus Beck wears a tin foil hat and plays around in his own poop looking for signs of the end of the world.Yes, that George Soros.
So, I cannot say I really enjoy this coming from the left, when I know they would gladly take the Koch brothers money if they were to the left, instead of the right.
Some of this paranoia could well just be the fact that there are far fewer old, rotting, gray haired tycoons, with no lives, who love to blow obscene amounts of their cash on left wing causes, I do not know.Yes, the left do have a much tougher uphill climb to compete with the Kochs, and Rove PACs, and all the other groups you see coming form thew right. That is certain. But they need to ‘fess up here.
I cannot stand hypocrites, left or right. That is my cross to bare. or is it bear? I do not know, whatever.
The point is this; Stop complaining about something that you would happily do if you could.
This does not mean I welcome with open arms the Koch brothers, and I say feel free to boycott anything they sell if you are progressive, hit them where it hurts. But, do not think what they do is so out there, when those on the left would gladly take the left wing equal to them, and run all the way to the bank.
That last part seemed a bit off, and maybe I could explain it better, if I wanted to.I suppose I am saying it is fine to boycott and use political means to stop those you oppose in policy, but do it because you do not support what they stand for, not because they spend the money on them.
