I saw this today, how cute.I guess the U.S. of A is committing suicide along with most of the civilized world. Why can’t we just be more like those honorable, wonderful countries such as Uganda?
I wonder when the country will slide into the Atlantic ocean, much like Massachusetts did when it began allowing gay marriage.Oh, wait.
This is all enjoyable to some degree, much like how the far right were going nuts the day after Obama was elected president. However, as the past mid term shows, maybe we should laugh less, and see how many of these lunatics are out there, and vote.It is hard not to laugh, though.
Last weekend, I did something I try and avoid doing do much, I feel ashamed even mentioning such a filthy, horrific thing to you.I really do.I needed a few showers, myself, to feel I got rid of the filth. No, I did not watch ” The Hills Have Thighs” on late night Cinemax.I have, before, but no that is not what I am talking about. No, I am talking about something perhaps a bit more dirty.I watched many hours of the Senate, our, umm, beloved senate ? They were working on something that is nearly two decades in the making, and I had to watch.I had to.
They voted on, and finally beat a filibuster, and beat that old fool John McCain, and passed the repeal on the abysmal “Don’t ask, don’t tell” laws that we have had for our military for nearly two decades.
Finally.
Now, we can enjoy all the silliness that the right will have to offer, such as the chestnut that now poor straight male soldiers will have to shower with gay soldiers.Oh, the nightmare! Or, not. They seem to think the military had no gays in its services, and that now with this repeal, the military will be changing its colors from military greens to bright pinks.
Frankly, it is odd to me that the two major fights the LGBT community have fought for are serving in military, and marriage.Yeah, I am not a fan of both.Their dream is to get married, and possibly die fighting for their country.Well, more power to them, and they should have the right to suffer, just like anyone else who wishes to marry.
I was going to talk a bit about the other major bill, that failed; The Dream act.Maybe I should rejoice in the final victory for finally allowing gays in the military?Maybe.
I think I will, for now.
Back in the old west, most cowboys did not even own their own horses. The idea that every cowboy had their own, loved, trusted, moniker given horse is something Hollywood created. They also created this tough cowboy; The gunslinging, tough guy who strolls into saloons, ordering a shot, usually of whiskey, and demanding the entire bottle. This is yet another myth. Most liquor in the old west tasted so horrific, that most cowboys ordered mixed drinks, anything to cover up the awful taste of the liquor. So, they drank what today we would consider “girlie” drinks. They hardly had many gun fights either.
But, through what Hollywood has portrayed the immortal cowboy as, we picture something that is not true, not by a long shot.It is a myth that has slowly come to be fact.
The same is said of the not so good senator from Arizona, John McCain. He is looked on as some great wise oracle, who knows Washington, this brave, true maverick, full of straight talk. This has been the dialogue mainstream media has portrayed for years.
But, much like the whiskey loving cowboy, it is not true.He has hardly been an actual factor in any major bill , or policy.Well, other then blocking, or promising to filibuster everything he opposes, or supported, but now opposes.
The only major piece of legislation he has his name on, is McCain/Feingold.That is it, and he hardly or barely even supports that bill, too.
Where did this myth begin? Perhaps ,it is really due to simply having a personal feud and strong dislike for George Bush. His weak support on many of Bush’s ideas was more out of a dislike for Bush, then any true or real maverick persona. But, it has stuck.
What his real legacy is, and should be, is a politician who has flip flopped and moved the goal posts on just about every position he has ever held.
So now, as he vows again to deny gays their right to join the military, he can be proud that once again, he showed who he really is.Whatever that is, this week.
Today, the senate took up the often derided “Don’t ask, don’t tell” as part of the over defense bill, as well as “The DREAM Act” which would give citizenship to those who joined the military.
It was, of course, filibustered.
We got to hear many excuses as to why those claiming to support the repealing of DADT filibustered the bill.More excuses than a cheating husband caught with panties that do not belong to his wife, more excuses than a pregnant nun. They went along the lines of…
“We were not allowed to add any of our own amendments.”
“We should wait for the results of the pentagon’s study.”
That was a couple of them, and they were easily answered.
First, as Harry Reid said, himself, today and last week, they would be allowed to add amendments.
Okay, but what about that study ? Well , first, Senator McCain who showed great bravery in his military service, is quite the political coward. That straight talk express of his has not only gone off the road, it has tumbled into a ditch! The leaders of the pentagon have vocally been positive on repeal, and more importantly, all this bill would do would repeal it, if that study came out, and spoke positively about repealing.
Okay, so neither of those excuses hold any water, in fact , they hold no water. They are Titanic excuses. They hit the iceberg and have sunk to the bottom of the Atlantic.
So, let’s call it what it is, bigotry.
They do not like the gays.Hey, at least when I want hate speech , or bigotry, prejudices, I can admit the KKK are honest about all their hate and prejudice.
On a related note, AOL’s ML Fanhouse, and this should not really be a shock to me or anyone who has actually read any AOL.com link, either links or comments, has this interesting (I say this loosely) story.
The poor guy, he worries he may have to go home and talk to his ugly , stupid kids about why two men were kissing. Now, maybe his kids are not ugly, or stupid, I do not really know, but really ?
Oh, he does not hate gays, he has gay friends.I love that argument.I do not hate gays, I have them as friends! I just do not think they should be considered to be equal to me, nor have the same rights as me.Yeah, I wish you were my friend. You sound like a great friend to have.
No one asked you to go home and discuss with your wonderful kids ( I feel bad about that ugly kids remark.) that those two men he saw kiss are now at home sticking their wangs up each other’s ass.No, you just say, if you even have to say anything, is that they love each other.
So let’s call this what it is: cowardly bigotry.
